TV CASUALTY

Thanks to Mr. Horse, I now know this awesome/scary factoid.

"A recent study found that at peak times, Netflix represented 20 percent of Internet download traffic in the United States."

To look at this information inline with other trend setting studies, the internet is basically 3 things to Americans. Cats, porn, and reruns of the A-Team. And the way things are going with our useless government elected officials - we are going to have to enjoy it in the form of regulated cats, porn, and reruns of the Incredible Hulk. "Netflix is gettin' too big fer hem thar britches, I reckon.", an inbred Comcast wonders aloud, as it pulls at it's suspenders and chews on a long stem of grass whilst wearing a top hat, "Best slow that down to dial up speeds."

What does this mean? Perhaps we should look to England for advice on how to best spend the twilight years of an aging empire. If so, then we can at least look forward to some superior comedic programming - if our ISPs deem it a good thing.

Robber fucking Barons.

FCC needs to step up, reclassify (yet again) this shit as a utility and put some fucking effort into a proper fucking fiber rollout so these pathetic dicks at the ISPs stop jerking us around.

and of course this all traces back to two actions.

1) FCC deregulating and reclassifying the Internet from a telcom to information service (thus no regulation).

2) ISPs lying to get get over $200 billion in tax cuts and increased service fees since the 1990's in exchange for that deregulation on the promise and premise that they'd build out a fantastic broadband infrastructure.

ISPs got what they wanted, we get fucked.

Now Comcast has their fiefdom, has NO reason to build out that infrastructure, and nobody can do a damn thing about it.

You really know how to cheer a guy up.

Maybe I'll watch some streaming netflix and super-speed, while I still have it.

Reality is harsh, but not knowing leaves one unable to effect any change.

As this story is developing it appears Level3 may have majorly jumped a shark.

The elephant in the corner (the shitty broadband rollout and infrastructure) remains, however. I'll have a further write up on my blog tonight.
